Precious Little One's

"Out of My arms and into yours,
I place this spirit into your care.
Hold this little one extra close,
a part of Heaven lingers there."

I love this poem with all my heart. I have it hanging in my entry and I think of it often. I have been so blessed to be a mother. I was watching "Adoption Stories" on the Discovery Health Channel (my fave!) and I felt impressed to blog about the miracle of motherhood.

Being pregnant and becoming a mother was one of the most wonderful experiences of my life, if not #1. It is a truly divine and sacred calling in this life, and to be trusted with these innocent little spirits is awe-inspiring. I have often considered this concept of being trusted with these little cherubs. There are drug addicts and young teenagers who become mothers every day. As horrific as these lives may be for little ones, are these questionable women/girls also trusted with this cherished responsibility I feel? It is a question that I am afraid will probably remain unanswered in this life. But you have to know I have my opinions by now...

Everyone comes into this life with a personality. From the time I could feel my beautiful boys bouncing around in my belly, I knew them. I could foresee what these little men would be like as they matured, and their personalities have definitely stuck. I feel like I was just a little girl when I got pregnant with Ty. DB and I were both scared, though you would never know DB was. He was strong for the two of us.

Even when Ty was just a little peanut in my tummy, he somehow seemed to be comforting me. He is what some would refer to as an "old soul." He is very intuitive and mature in so many ways. Of course he is a 3 year old and has tantrums and he gets in to things, but anyone can tell you how amazing this child is. He has been quietly taking time-outs since he was walking. He listens when you talk things out with him. He remembers everything. He teaches DB, Cam and I everything he can think of. I have had my share of emotional break downs, and in his tiny life he has held me in his arms and said, "It's okay, Mommy. I'm here," more times than I care to share. More times than is fair for such a tender young life. He is patient and kind, and truly a wondrous little boy.

When Cam started swimming in my belly, he went full boar right off the bat. He was bouncing off the walls (literally!). When space began to get limited in there, I would attempt to push him out of the way, and he would push back. When I was delivering him, I was in labor and crying because I couldn't have an epidural in Iowa, and all the sudden it was over, his way and nobody else's. As a newborn, he was loud and demanding and a bundle of fun! As he's grown and learned, he is just as hard-headed as DB, if not more so. He'll fight you, tooth and nail, just for the entertainment, just to win something. He always does things his way or not at all. He is one that I have to give choices to about every detail of his life just to keep the peace! But that boy is fiercely protective of his family, especially his brother. He can play fight with the best of them, but if he thinks someone has gained the upper hand on Ty, he will stop the fight immediately. He scolds the dogs if he thinks they're being to rough with us. He constantly has to know where every member of his family is, and I believe it is because he has a need to look out for us. He boldly declares his love to all those he adores, and is extremely polite, probably as a ploy to get his own way.

Back to my original point... Am I trusted just as some junkie? Individual spirits have individual destinies. As lamentable as it may be, some little ones are not here to live a full life, but maybe to touch someone else's for good. Maybe all they need is a little while to fulfill their purpose here. Maybe in those cases, it's not the mothers that are trusted, but the children. And maybe, just maybe, it goes both ways every time.

You Learn!

You grieve you learn, you choke you learn
You laugh you learn, you choose you learn
You pray you learn, you ask you learn
You live you learn

I understand that I'm super dorky for posting song lyrics, but Alanis seemed to be applicable to my life lately. I just need to remember that it's all for a reason. No matter how bad it hurts, no matter how difficult it seems, it is all for me to learn from. Even the good stuff is a lesson, though. I need to be more grateful for the good times, and maybe the bad ones won't suck so bad...

My Soapbox!

My opinions and feeling are very strong, and I suspect my dear husband is tired of getting an earful from me when I already know he 100% agrees with me. Anyway, I enjoy sparking controversy (to a degree) over things the I feel passionately about. So I have decided to impose my thoughts upon my blog readers. This weeks rant is about family.

You get to make a lot of choices in this life. You get to choose your standards, you get to choose how you feel about things, how you react, where you live, friends, pets, hair color, etc. Their are innumerable things that you are in control of! One thing that you never get to choose is your family. In the same respect, you do choose your spouse, but not your family-in-law. I guess it's that age old give and take dilemma. Then comes another dilemma... what if there is someone in your family tree, whether one who shares your DNA or not, that you continuously butt heads with? What then? Do you cut them out of your life like a bad habit? Do you try to keep a superficial relationship with them? Or do you suck it up and realize that if you are potentially spending ETERNITY with these people you ought to learn to love them now? I'll be the first to admit that the love of my life and I got off to a rocky start. My mother did not like him, let alone love him. It has been a constant battle since I was 15 years old. This is one of those things that may warrant some hurt feelings or ostracizing of a loved one. But guess what? It has had no effect on my family at all. My mother and my love are kind to one another! I know there are hurt feeling on both sides, but they don't let it affect how often we get together as a family, they don't let it affect Nana's relationship with her grand children, and neither one of them make me play monkey in the middle. I appreciate it so much and I am so glad that they both realize it's not about any one person anymore. It's about FAMILY.

On the flip side, I have been butting heads with my #2 BFF, Daniel's younger brother. He said some hurtful things to me, and I'm sure my retaliations were more malicious than intended. He and my husband don't really get along, and Daniel gets very protective of me when someone brings me to tears. But we're family, and these thing will never be anything that keeps us away from each other. Even though Daniel and Bubba have never had a great relationship, they realize that this principle of family is something bigger than them.

Family is a rare and precious gift that should be more important than anything else in one's life. You only get one shot. They can never be replaced. If someone feels offended by their family, that is their choice, not someone elses fault. Heavenly Father gave you these people for a reason. You can either choose to learn from them and learn to love them, or deny yourself of that precious bond that only family can create.

Ephesians 4: 32
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

I believe this scripture applies to family above all else. I hope and pray with all my heart that I will always choose to love, nurture and forgive my entire family, no matter the circumstances.

Beck Babies Halloween Festivities

All Hallows Eve was a wonderful event for the youngest Beck's of our family! They were absolutely mesmerized by all the candy and shocked that strangers were giving them candy for no reason. Ty kept saying, "I want to trick-or-treat tomorrow again!" It was so wonderful to see it through their innocent eyes. They made out like bandits with both sets of grand parents and their favorite relatives, Aunt Kelly and Uncle Rhino. We were gone all night and I opted to leave a dish full of candy on the porch for our trick-or-treaters. I expected all of the candy would be dumped into some greedy teenager's pillow case, but I was absolutely floored when I got home at 11:30 and there was still a layer of candy across the bottom of the dish! What is this world coming to when Halloween is no longer a time of mooching candy off the unsuspecting neighbors? We also did some sweet cookie decorating before trick-or-treating. I guess it's time to start gearing up for Christmas!

My cheesy monkeys!

Tyler takes his frosting very seriously...

Cam does not!

Apparently you have to walk the plank if you smile.

The pirates defeating the evil gar-boyl!

They got caught decorating cookies by themselves the next morning.
